Cloth Diaper Care

In order to ensure long-lasting quality and utility from your cloth diapers, it’s important that you wash and care for them as instructed by the manufacturer.

Caring for your Cloth Diapers:

Fuzzi Bunz and Mommy's Touch diapers are single use diapers. Wash both the Fuzzi Bunz and insert after each use.

Most babies will experience little to no diaper rash after using cloth diapers. Do not use any rash or diaper ointments or creams with the diapers.Fuzzi Bunz Cutie If you need to use diaper cream it is recommended to use a barrier between the cream and the diaper. Some ideas for this are: baby washcloths, wonder wipes, or disposable “kushies” liners.

When wet, separate insert and diaper and store in a dry diaper pail.

If soiled, simply knock solids into toilet. Small solids stuck to the fleece will dissolve in the wash. You can also use a mini-shower toilet attachment to rinse off soiled diapers over the toilet or simply rinse the diaper in the toilet while flushing.

Washing/Drying your Cloth Diapers:

First, run a cold rinse or soak cycle with no detergent.

Second, run a hot cycle with detergent. Do not use bleach.

Third, if your hot wash is not automatically followed by a cold rinse, run a cold rinse cycle. This step only necessary with a particularly dirty load.

Tumble dry the diapers in dryer on low or hang to dry. Do not use fabric softener or pure soap. Never dry on high heat.

Other Useful Tips:

If your liners become grey over time you can lay them in the sunlight to naturally whiten them.

Be careful of using too much laundry detergent when you wash. Bubbles or residue left over on your diapers will cause them to leak. Suds left over on your diapers after washes are a sign of too much detergent. If you see bubbles you need to rinse again.

The diapers need to be “stripped” every few weeks to avoid leaks from residue from soap and oils. “Stripping” means washing your diapers in plain water (no detergent) through several hot washes. You should keep stripping until you no longer see bubbles in the wash. I usually run about 3-4 hot washes to fully strip my diapers.

If you suspect oil residue is on your diapers, one tip is to use a VERY small amount of dish soap in the wash to remove the oil residue. The diapers will then need to be rinsed very well (probably stripping would be easiest).
